Academic Associate
The Center for Evolutionary Functional Genomics in the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University seeks a part-time Academic Associate.
Job Description
Participates in the maintenance, development, and debugging of software and SQL-based relational databases needed by the Center. Uses problem-solving skills in the analysis of biological data, including molecular sequences and images containing gene expression patterns. Operates computing equipment as required. Collaborates in the design, testing, and documentation phases of software as well as in research programs involving database resources and access.
Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, biology, or a related field; AND one year of computer programming experience AND 6 months of experience in computational analysis of DNA, protein, or gene expression data; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, abilities and research experience have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in software development for comparative analysis of DNA/protein sequences or gene expression pattern images. Previous experience with biology-oriented research. Demonstrated experience using Delphi for building applications and/or using MySQL and/or Oracle 9i – 10g for database storage, access, and programming is highly desirable.
