Bio
Anatole Krattiger, PhD, focuses on the intellectual property component of plant-derived pharmaceuticals at the Biodesign Institute Center for Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology at Arizona State University. In addition, he co-teaches a graduate course on controversies in biotechnology innovation in developing countries.
Dr. Krattiger began his career as a farmer in Switzerland, lived in many parts of the world, including Mexico while working at Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Ma�z y Trigo, a nonprofit organization that researches sustainable development of wheat and corn farming.
In 1991, Dr. Krattiger assisted a colleague in the creation of an international biotech broker, ISAAA, to facilitate biotech transfer from such companies as Monsanto, DuPont, Novartis (now Syngenta) and many others, via licensing and public-private partnerships. As executive director of ISAAA, he led the global organization to 2000 and maintained offices and programs in Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia and the U.S. He also worked briefly at the International Academy of the Environment, creating a biodiversity/biotechnology program aimed at policy development and strategic issues at the nexus of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Dr. Krattiger is an elected member of the advisory council on intellectual property of the Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, N.H., on the board of the Black Sea Biotechnology Association, advisory board of CABI’s online service AgBiotechNet, life member of the Society for International Development and a former distinguished advisor to the Council for Biotechnology Information in Washington, DC, until the council merged with Biotechnology Industry Organization.
In addition, Dr. Krattiger is editor-in-chief of Innovation Strategy Today, and on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Biotechnology and of the International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialization. He has edited several books and has more than 70 publications in refereed journals, book chapters and conference proceedings.
A popular keynote speaker at international meetings, Dr. Krattiger travels widely and works extensively in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe. Dr. Krattiger is a Swiss citizen, who is fluent in German, English, French and Spanish.
Dr. Krattiger earned a master of philosophy in plant breeding and genetics and a PhD in genetics and biochemistry from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
