Bio
As director of Communication & Institutional Advancement for the
Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University, Kimberly Ovitt, APR,
oversees multiple programs including marketing, public relations, K-12
educational outreach, community relations, employee relations, and
fundraising programs. Ovitt is a member of the strategic leadership
team for the Institute and is responsible for identifying and
developing communication efforts that further the research mission and
business goals of the Institute. This includes enhancing relationships
with the public at large; prospective donors, industrial, clinical and
academic partners, the local business community; students; potential
and current faculty and staff; and members of the K-12 educational
system. With more than 25 years of experience, Ovitt joined the
Biodesign Institute at ASU in 2004. Prior to this, she served for nine
years in a similar role at Phoenix Children's Hospital, one of the 10
largest children's hospitals in the nation. Other prior experience
includes nine years employed by the City of Mesa, Arizona, and five
years employed in health care communication for several large hospital
systems. Ovitt graduated summa cum laude from ASU in 1981 with a BA in
communication. She was accredited by the Public Relations Society of
America in 1988 and served as president of the Phoenix PRSA chapter in 1991.
